Everything you need to know about the SEBA Schools Challenge 2027
Registration and Enrollment
Registration opens in October 2026. Visit the registration page, complete the form with your school details, provide information for all 4 team members, and complete the €20 payment (€5 per student). You will receive an email confirmation with further instructions.
Registration closes on December 31, 2026. However, spots are limited to 24 schools, so we recommend registering early to secure your participation.
Yes, you can make changes to team members up to 2 weeks before the qualification phase (January 2027). After this deadline, the team roster is locked to maintain competition integrity.
Registration fees are refundable until December 15, 2026. After this date, fees are non-refundable as production costs and materials have already been committed.
Eligibility and Requirements
The challenge is open to secondary school students from Catalonia. Each team must have exactly 4 members. Students must be between 14 and 18 years old on the day of the grand final (March 2027).
Yes! The SEBA Schools Challenge 2027 welcomes public, charter, and private schools from across Catalonia. We believe in equal opportunities for all students to demonstrate their academic excellence.
No prior experience is required. The challenge is designed to assess academic knowledge and LOMLOE competencies, not competition experience. All teams receive the same guidelines and preparation materials.
Competition Format
The competition has 4 stages: Qualifications (January 2027) where all 24 teams compete in preliminary rounds, Semifinals (February 2027) with the top 8 teams, and the Grand Final (March 2027) with the top 4 teams. The final will be televised for later broadcast.
All questions are linked to SEBA card games and cover the 8 LOMLOE competencies: Linguistic Communication, Multilingual, STEM, Digital, Learning to Learn, Citizenship, Entrepreneurial, and Cultural Awareness. Questions range from basic knowledge to advanced critical thinking.
Teams earn points for correct answers. Incorrect answers may result in point deductions. Bonus questions are worth additional points. The team with the most points at the end of each round advances to the next stage.
All rounds are held in a professional TV-quality studio in Catalonia. The exact location will be communicated to qualified teams. The grand final will be recorded for later television broadcast.
Prizes and Recognition
Current prizes are: 1st place - €1,000, 2nd place - €500, 3rd place - €300. Prizes are subject to change based on participation fees and competition preparation costs. If more teams register, prizes will increase proportionally.
Yes! All finalists receive trophies, medals, and certificates. The winning team receives the SEBA Challenge 2027 Trophy. All participants receive certificates of participation recognizing their achievement in LOMLOE competencies.
Cash prizes are paid directly to the school, not to individual students. The school can decide how to use the funds - for scholarships, educational equipment, or other academic purposes.
LOMLOE Competencies
LOMLOE competencies are the 8 key competencies established by Spanish educational law: Linguistic Communication, Multilingual, STEM, Digital, Learning to Learn, Citizenship, Entrepreneurial, and Cultural Awareness. These competencies represent essential skills for academic and professional success.
Each challenge question is linked to a specific LOMLOE competency. Questions are designed to assess not only factual knowledge but also critical thinking, problem-solving, and application of concepts in real-world contexts.
Students can prepare by using SEBA card games (1,400 learning cards covering all 8 competencies), reviewing LOMLOE curriculum materials, and practicing teamwork. We will provide additional preparation materials to registered teams.
Substitute Players
Substitute players can be used at any competition stage (Qualifications, Semifinals, or Grand Final) if a main team member is unable to participate due to illness, emergency, or other unavoidable circumstances. Substitutes must be declared during registration and cannot be added after the roster deadline (2 weeks before Qualifications).
Yes, the 2 registered substitutes can replace any of the 4 main team members. There are no position-specific restrictions. However, once a substitution is made for a competition stage, the lineup for that stage is locked and cannot be changed mid-round.
Yes, substitute players must meet all the same eligibility requirements as main team members: they must be secondary school students aged 14-18 years old on the day of the Grand Final, enrolled at the same school, and registered with complete information (name, age, contact details) during the initial registration period.
Schools must notify organizers at least 48 hours before the competition stage begins if they plan to use a substitute player. Notification should be sent via email with the reason for substitution and confirmation of which substitute will replace which main team member. Emergency substitutions on the day of competition require approval from the competition director.
